TextBetter Messaging Guidelines & Best Practices

As the popularity of messaging grows, it is essential to follow best practices for sending text messages to ensure compliance with relevant laws and Industry regulations, and to maintain a good user experience.

Below are best practices and guidelines to help ensure your text messages are sent successfully and remain aligned with carrier requirements.

As a reminder, all TextBetter customers must complete A2P 10DLC registration in accordance with wireless carrier guidelines by submitting the TextBetter registration form. If registration is not completed, or if required updates are not provided when requested by TextBetter, message delivery may be impacted or blocked by carriers.

  • Make sure you have proper opt in consent for all text recipients. TextBetter does not independently validate or audit consent capture, and does not provide legal advice.
  • Do not send text messages where the sender is represented as a part of, or sending on behalf of, any entity or business other than the approved brand.
  • Do not send text messages containing prohibited keywords or disallowed content
  • Do not send the same text to multiple recipients, repeatedly, over a short period of time, without:
    • Consulting with TextBetter Support to ensure your texting campaign is properly registered/approved for a higher throughput; and/or
    • The use of TextBetter Mass Texting Tools, such as The SMS Marketing Wizard or TextBetter TextDistro.
  • Do not send text messages containing marketing or promotional content unless you have a properly registered Marketing Use Case campaign.
  • Do not send text messages containing unregistered links (to register links with your texting campaign, please contact our support team).

Do not text links that use a shortner (bitly), or links to a domain that you do not own. For more information on this topic, click here.

  • Do not send text messages containing unregistered telephone numbers (to register call back numbers with your texting campaign, please contact our support team).
  • Avoid sending text messages in all caps and/or with excessive punctuation (THANKS, ASAP, @, %, !!!, ???)
  • Maintain a low opt-out ratio. As a rule of thumb, keep opt-out ratio under 10%.

TextBetter reserves the right to block or strip content from messages containing any of the words included in our prohibited keywords list, prior to delivering them to a carrier network, and/or append message content with the Opt-out keyword “Stop” as required by wireless carrier code of conduct and the CTIA Messaging Principals & Best Practices.
