TextBetter messaging guidelines & best practices

As the popularity of messaging grows, it is essential to follow best practices for sending text messages to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and to maintain a good user experience.

Below are some best practices and guidelines to follow when sending text messages.  

As a reminder, all TextBetter customers must be registered per A2P 10DLC & wireless carrier guidelines by completing the TextBetter registration form. Failure to complete or update a registration at the request of TextBetter will result in undelivered messages.
  • Do not send text messages where the sender is represented as a part of, or sending on behalf of, any entity or business other than the approved brand.
  • Do not send text messages containing prohibited keywords or disallowed content
  • Do not send the same text to multiple recipients, repeatedly, over a short period of time, without:
    • Consulting with TextBetter Support to ensure your texting campaign is properly registered/approved for a higher throughput; and
    • The use of TextBetter Mass Texting Tools, such as The SMS Marketing Wizard or TextBetter TextDistro.
  • When embedding a link in your message, make sure it is properly registered with your texting campaign.  – to register links (URLs) to your texting campaign, please contact our support team.

Do not text links that use a shortner (bitly), or links to a domain that you do not own. For more information on this topic, click here.

  • When including a callback number in your text message, make sure the number is properly registered with your texting campaign. – to register links phone numbers with  your texting campaign, please contact our support team.
  • Avoid sending text messages in all caps and/or with excessive punctuation (THANKS, ASAP, @, %, !!!, ???)
  • Make sure you have proper OPT in and/or OPT out for all text recipients- and maintain a low opt-out ratio. As a rule of thumb, keep opt-out ratio under 10%.

TextBetter reserves the right to block or strip content from messages containing any of the words included in our prohibited keywords list, prior to delivering them to a carrier network, and/or append message content with the Opt-out keyword “Stop” as required by wireless carrier code of conduct and the CTIA Messaging Principals & Best Practices.
